A College Girl’s Guide to: A Fabulous Summer in Ann Arbor

University of Michigan - Diag in the Summer (why is the snow green?)
Just when it seems we can finally enjoy Michigan without the burden of school work and subzero temperatures, Ann Arbor’s booming flux of 60,000 + students, faculty and staff thins to a mere suggestion of its normal size as summer opportunities at home and abroad lure away Michigan’s leaders and best. That’s all fine and good for them, but what about the handful of us who won’t be saying peace to the ace deuce this spring?
If you’re stuck around Ann Arbor because of spring/summer term courses, research or job opportunities, or an extending lease, fret not, Ann Arborians; take it from a me, there’s no better place to enjoy summertime in bloom (even without your usual posse at your ranks). Here, I present for you the first of a weekly post update about the fun things I’ve discovered midway through my own summer #2 in Ann Arbor. Hopefully this will help you make the most of your own experience. Stay tuned!
Tip #1: Never underestimate the power of a house party!

House Party of sorts
It takes a lot for a true bar rat such as myself to admit, but I’ve come to appreciate nothing more than a kick ass house party on those perfect summer nights. Think outdoor pong, casual sundresses and shorts, chill music and of course, good company. What better way to expand your horizons and get to know fellow spring-termers? And believe me, you’re not going to want to hang out with the same three people all summer long; no one is THAT interesting and fun to be around all the time.
Forever faithful to Skeeps and Rick’s? The bar scene can still be a rippin’ good time (though not a very different scene than during the school year) so long as you know which nights are good for which bars. I recommend Tuesday karaoke and Wednesday trivia nights at Charlie’s, Thursdays and Saturday for Scorekeepers or Ricks, and try someplace new on Friday.  Some of the best places for any night of the week are Dominick’s which has a great spot to sit outside and enjoy signature Sangria drinks, and Ashley’s, a similarly chill atmosphere with outdoor seating and an impressive selection of beer. After all, $2 pitchers never go out of season.
