A Need for Neutrals

Introducing: Erica Nicole.  Erica is a freshman interested in the fashion magazine industry.  She loves style and “talking fashion”, making her a perfect blogger for SHEImagazine.com and writer for our print edition. Keep reading for Erica’s insight on the hottest colors of the season.

Skin tones. Neutrals. Beiges and browns. These colors seem to dominate the department stores at shopping malls this year. One might expect brighter colors to steal the show, but I think these sand-colored clothes will be all the craze this fall.

From cream colored sweaters to chocolate brown boots, these colors are anything but boring. The key to wearing these earthy tones is to balance them with just the right amount of dainty accessories.

Another great way to wear this neutral trend is with lace. The lack of “color” in these off-white tones is just what one needs for a rich looking, relaxed outfit. Whether you’re looking to grab a coffee with the girls, or make an entrance at a swanky restaurant, there’s something about these tan tones that give any outfit the right look. If you want a casual outfit, throw on a pair of jeans with a beige sweater and a pair of brown suede boots. Complete the look with a few layered necklaces and bracelets. Don’t forget to bundle up with a cozy cream-colored coat, gloves and a scarf. For a more formal look, pick a dress that’s champagne colored and add a touch of lace. Wear an elegant pair of heels that are a similar shade as the dress. Carry around a clutch and you will certainly be a walking masterpiece!

Hmm… this post reminds me of Irina Shabayeva’s last two outfits from Project Runway. Too many neutrals can drown out a person and can be really boring, and for me, there’s always got to be something that’s not too sleek. :P

Neutrals never go out of fashion and are always a staple for any wardrobe. Just the thing this fall for a warm, together looking outfit that goes anywhere.
