Think the Empire State Building is tall? Think again.

Chicago-based engineering firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill is currently completing construction on Burj Dubai, a 2684 ft. tall skyscraper that should be ready for occupancy in early January, 2010.
The building is a mixed-use development, featuring hotel, residential and office spaces, as well as shopping and restaurants.

The Burj Dubai skyscraper is yet another addition to the United Arab Emirates’ most populous state, Dubai, which owes much of its growth to oil reserves in the area. Dubai is already a popular vacation spot for the rich and famous, with a multitude of extravagant hotels and luxury shopping malls.
