Custom Graffiti.

26 June 2009 No Comment

orangeThe rising acceptance and popularity of graffiti art in mainstream culture is evident in more places than just the streets.  The recent trend of custom apparel and personal items such as clothing and electronics is feeling the influence of this formerly guerilla art form.

Graffiti art has perhaps had its strongest influence on graphic design and cartoon art.  Ditch the cliché custom graffiti t-shirt that you bought at a theme park.  Customized apparel has become much more accessible and adaptable to your own style.

Puma recently paired with Mongolian BBQ Restaurant to create a Mongolian Shoe BBQ on their website, which

allows users to custom design a pair of Puma sneakers with an array of different fabrics and colors.  Check out these sweet kicks, that I just designed (see photo at right).

Customizing isn’t just for clothing, either.  Stickers, or “skins,” for your favorite electronic devices are available all over the Internet and in many electronic stores as well.  Artists are taking advantage of the craze by designing works for iPod or Laptop skins.  Check out Jorge Oswaldo’s designs available on skinit.com (see below).
