Italian Street Fashion

8 September 2009 No Comment

As Claudio Brassini, once said “in Italy, you have to stand out to fit in. ” The style of those in Italy is cohesion through variation.  Established brands like Valentino, Ferragamo, and Versace depict the often neutral colored yet classic side of Italy but those labels represent only a small fraction of the fashion scene.

Italian Street Fashion and the blogs that document them have become a haven for youth that can neither afford nor wish to buy the romanticized labels of their forefathers.  Instead, they opt for clothing styles as can be seen on fashion blogs like http://www.plasticchoko.blogspot.com.

Some styles are recognizable international brand names like Puma, Paul Smith, and even American Apparel while others are created through the use of vintage pieces and emerging designer boutiques support regional trends.  In stores entitled Cavalli&Nastri, Purple Shop, and Superfly Vintage , variation is key and they sell anything from vintage mod and mob apparel to the latest items from D&G and Miss Sixty.  And having great shops makes great fashion – localized styles flourish and no one looks like a shop window dispay.

I bet you’re curious about the latest trends.  Most recently, Italian Street Fashion has included pops of purple, where previously notte (black) had been.  In addition, seen on the streets of Rome, Florence, and Naples are Italian’s version of the “Western” boot dubbed the “Spaghetti Western” boot and showing a lot of thigh.  Just remember, in the Southern Italian summer heat, anything goes.
