Leave the girls alone!

France Gall
I recently rediscovered a favorite song of mine, “Chick Habit†by April March, during the credits of Tarantino’s “Grindhouse.â€
I’d originally heard it on the soundtrack of the quirky LGBT romantic comedy, “But I’m A Cheerleader,†and was somewhat surprised to hear it used in a more mainstream film. Curiosity and boredom got the better of me and I decided to do a little research on the tune– turns out it was also used in a bunch of Renault (a French automotive company) commercials, and, even more exciting for a Francophile like me, actually a cover of a French song written by Serge Gainsbourg and sung by France Gall.
The original is called “Laisse Tomber Les Filles,†which essentially translates to “Leave The Girls Alone.†Check out the video on YouTube and bathe in the glorious sixties vibe that is refreshingly free of booties rocking everywhere.
Oh, and if you want to experience France’s version of Tom Jones, please enjoy Michel Delpech’s “Pour Un Flirt.†Even Wisconsin couldn’t handle this much cheese.
