Looking Good in Maize&Blue
School spirit is a huge part of college life, especially on the maize and blue campus we call home. Week after week, students entered The Big House decked out in wolverine memorabilia from head to toe. Junior biology major Karli Burnett is the brains behind the get-ups worn by her fellow GDI girls.
According to her junior roommates, Megan Avesian and Erika Dolowiec, Burnett sets up shop on the kitchen counter and gets down to business with her sewing machine. Burnett’s latest styles include bows and capes that she designed just in time for the big rival game against the Spartans. Even though we lost the football game, Michigan students definitely looked on top of the fashion game.
Karli herself wore a Michigan tee, maize and blue headband, tutu, and one of her homemade capes. Burnett buys the fabric from Michael’s and lets her creativity go for a whirl. The bows are maize and blue plaid. They remind me of the bows I once wore as a child. The capes are very versatile. Burnett designed them to be reversible. One side is sequined blue, and the other is maize. The capes give off the persona of a superhero.
