Oasis Metropolis

One example - check out the article for more.

Flipping through a back issue of National Geographic, I came upon an article about green roofs.  Never fear – I’m not talking about shingle colors.

Featured in the May 2009 Special Energy Issue, the article is paired with some stunning views of urban rooftops landscaped into lush and verdant get-aways.  The photographs are the work of Diane Cook and Len Jenshel while Verlyn Klinkenborg provides the background.

One of my favorite ideas - wish they'd do it in my city!

While rooftop gardens are nothing new, especially in the city, some of these are down right jaw-dropping.  Part of the creativity is due to new technologies but with living roofs like these, I’m not sure why one would need the country.

Enjoy the photographs!
