The laziness of summer is slowly shaking off.  Soon the foam and plastic that have graced our feet for the last few months will be inadequate. Luckily, you have plenty of options for your back-to-school casual footwear.

If Converse sneakers are the staple of your shoe tree, grab a pair of hi-tops, low-tops or slip-ons from your nearest boutique, or Target.  The All-Stars (celebratin’ 60!), introduced by the company in 1917, have recently been named one of GQ’s “Milestones in Manhood,” and regardless of your affinity (or lack-thereof) for fashion, these shoes can help ‘make’ any look.

Sneakers too casual for you?  Get off your high horse, because even Alexander McQueen digs trainers.  Make a jump start on the trends for spring and summer next year and run for some Keds now; these canvas sneakers have recently rebounded into style with a variety of colors, styles, and prints available online and in-stores—you can even design your own or buy green.

A personal favorite, Vans, is extensively stocked throughout Ann Arbor, and you can similarly examine their shoes online.  Like Keds, you can customize and be eco-conscious, but unusual materials including jute, denim, bamboo and herringbone give an inimitable texture and flair.
