The Dewey Decimal Hotel

It’s official. I’m obsessed with New York City.  Once you finally think you couldn’t be shocked at some crazy restaurant, hotel, bar, or club, you’ll find out that you’re totally wrong. For example, one place that I have yet to stay and (quote me now) I will make sure I do sometime soon, is the Library Hotel, one of New York’s hidden and luxury hotels, located right in Midtown Manhattan.

The hotel is small, only sixty guest rooms in total. The 1900 landmark houses travelers who are passionate about culture and, of course, reading! Each of the ten floors at the hotel is designed to replicate one of the ten major categories of the Dewey Decimal System.

I’m sure we’ve all learned the ten major categories in the sixth grade but, to refresh your memory, they are: Social Sciences, History, Literature, Languages, General Knowledge, Philosophy, Math & Science, Technology, Religion, and the Arts. Some guests choose which category they’d like, while others are content with any of the ten. No matter what room is chosen, they are all exquisitely designed to go with the theme. The rooms are adorned with book collections and art pieces that directly relate to the room’s unique Dewey Decimal category.

The Library Hotel prides itself on being the first hotel in the world to offer over 6,000 volumes of books. Their website allows guests to choose both the floor and room that they’d like best. Personally, I’d love to stay in room six on the seventh floor. That is, 700.006. The seventh floor is themed to replicate the arts and room six is themed with fashion design art pieces and book collections.

The worst room for me? Fifth floor, room one. Mathematics is just not my thing. But, check out the website and see what room best suits your interests! And, if you consider yourself a “bibliophile” you’re in luck. Not only is the hotel located on Madison Ave and 41st St., just minutes away from the famous New York Public Library, but it’s also offering 20% off hotel stays for all bibliophiles.

Take a trip to the Hotel Library and experience the Dewey Decimal wonderland. I bet Melvil Dewey would be proud.
