When you mix classic speeches with beat-happy music…

The Gregory Brothers, and Sarah

Recently, a random music recommendation introduced me to some interesting projects where music artists are remixing famous speeches, from Winston Churchill to Martin Luther King Jr. over techno-ish/r&b music…and it’s really fun to listen to.

So there’s this site called Amie Street which I’m sure you’ve all heard of.  It’s similar to Pandora in that you choose what music you like and they give you recommendations of other artists you might not have known about otherwise.  You can purchase mp3′s from the website and if you have an account, they’ll send you free downloads from time to time. Why is this important?  Because that’s where I was offered the mp3 version of this song – and the music video on Youtube is somewhat entertaining.

And now I’m playing around on said Internet-video site…the same group of fella’s did John F. Kennedy’s inaugeral address and Martin Luther King Jr.’s I have a dream speech.

So who are these guys?  The Gregory Brothers(and Sarah) are a family band living in Brooklyn.  They’ve all got Youtube/Myspace/Facebooks, so check them out! Here’s a nifty PRI interview of the brothers for more info on what they do. If you’re going to be techno-dancing anyway, you might as well do it to one of the most famous speeches in history…because then it counts as studying.

Oh, and don’t forget the Black Eyed Peas & friends version of Yes We Canthat won an Emmy (hooray for all-star tributes).

Best,
