Notes From Fashion Olympics 2010: Men’s Figure Skating

22 February 2010 3 Comments

My favorite part of the Winter Olympics is men’s figure skating because the outfits are guaranteed to be some combination of ridiculous and awesome. Since I enjoy lists as much as I appreciate men in spandex the incredible displays of physical finesse and creativity of figure skating , here is a rundown of the year’s best costumes.

With his faux-tuxedo, Patrick Chan would be just as suitably dressed for a formal dinner. And they say Canadians are all about flannel and overalls!

I don’t care if he didn’t medal – Johnny Weir’s representing the United States of America while wearing hot pink. ‘Nuff said.

Somehow, Fernandez has managed to make figure skating masculine with his Jack Sparrow-approved buccaneering outfit complete with fake pirate boots.

Continuing the high-seas theme, we have Lambiel with his pirate-king-meets-Michael-Jackson-and-Edward-Scissorhands look.

To add to the post, Evan Lysacek’s costume designed by Vera Wang was awesome. Masculine yet sparkly! An admirable feat.
