Google.

Rumors are surfacing that Google is working on a social networking site to compete with Facebook.

This isn’t the first time Google has ventured into the world of social networking – anybody remember Orkut? Didn’t think so. Although it’s popular in some countries, like Brazil and Turkey, it never really caught on in the rest of the world. So why try again? It might have something to do with the immense popularity of Facebook, which overtook Google in hits for the first time in mid-March this year.

Personally, I’m excited about an alternative to Facebook. I don’t think I’d be far off in assuming that others would be too, considering the large amount of “I Hate the New Facebook” type groups. But I’m a little frightened about Google having access to all of my social data in addition to my e-mail, internet searches, medical records, and what my house looks like from way up high and from the street.
