Oh the things we do for love.  Climb mountains…swim oceans…marry – ahem, objects.  Though it seems absolutely absurd to me, occurences of people getting hitched to objects can be blamed on “objectum sexuality” – a condition that makes people fall in love with inanimate objects. 

A lady in France married what she thought to be the perfect spouse–the tall, dark and handsome…Eiffel Tour! She even changed her last name to La Tour Eiffel. Another lady has professed her love for an amusement park roller coaster.

The 21st century version of this love-story can be found in Tokyo where one enthusiastic and enamoured Nintendo DS gamer has actually married an avatar from the game “Love Plus”.  Online gamers and others were able to watch the wedding ceremony between groom/gamer Sal 9000 and his bride, Nene Anegasaki.

This is the first noted marriage between a human and a virtual character.
