May 26th: “Dress like a lawyer” day?

26 May 2010 No Comment

Tonight, the last episode of Law & Order will air on NBC.  This is a big deal.  To commemorate one of the longest running series in the history of television, today should be “Dress like a lawyer” day.  It might not be as boring as you think.

1. It’s difficult to imagine a casual Friday in the courtroom.  So don’t. Instead, button-up.  This means trousers instead of jeans and shirts with collars.  Or perhaps an office-appropriate dress.  Either way, it’s not official until you’ve chosen a blazer, like the cropped Gabrielle, ($58) from FredFlare.com.

2.  Just as Jack McCoy would never forget a legal brief, so should you not forget to accessorize.  For those of you who wear cuff links, try this “Guilty/Not Guilty“  ($45) set from Cufflinks House.  I’m still deliberating as to whether or not gavel-earrings would be a little too tacky.

3. Finally, I advocate carrying a briefcase for the day.  Your laptop will probably fit in the typical example of one, as will a sandwich – see, lunch and work in one handy carry-all.  On second thought, skip the laptop and DIY your briefcase to be the actual lunchbox, a la DesignSpongeOnline.com and their Green Space Travel Case.  Okay, this kinda gets away from the lawyer-theme, but I told you it wouldn’t be boring, right?
