Quit smoking, start reading
So sayeth one German company, Hamburger Automatenverlag. Based in (you guessed it), Hamburg, the company is converting cigarette machines into book dispensaries. The books are priced at about 4 Euros ($5) – cheaper than cigarettes – and are available in various spots around the city.
It should be no surprise that this project has started in Germany. After all, the world’s largest book fair does take place in Frankfurt. But I’ve alerted my “German contacts” to be on the lookout for the machines. I’ll keep you posted as to their actual functionality.

The Liberty Street Robot Supply and Repair Shop (826 Michigan) had an old vending machine that sold small items. I can’t remember exactly what they were, but I loved the repurposed use for the machine!
