Ripped Leggings: A Rip Off or Totally Hip?

31 January 2010 3 Comments

Last Tuesday (please refrain from asking me why I was even out in the first place), I was taken aback by something at Scorekeeper’s Bar and Grill. No, it was not the bouncer at the door. In fact, as a recent twenty-one year old, it was my first trip to Skeep’s where I didn’t tremble while showing him my I.D. What I realized was far worse than a possible Skeep’s rejection. It was that I saw a girl wearing ripped leggings. And, even worse than the leggings themselves, was that SHEI has yet to cover this recent so-called “trend.”

There is no doubt that leggings have become increasingly popular. Gone are the days where they are worn solely for working out or during Pilates. I, myself, am guilty of wearing leggings on a semi-regular basis. Since the days of the standard, cotton legging we have seen so much more. The shiny, nylon legging, the denim leggings–I was even willing to put up with the metallic leggings. The ripped leggings, however, bring things to an entirely new level. Some celebrities, like Lady Gaga can pull the look off. While others, like Miley Cyrus, simply cannot. The shredded look is clearly done best by David Lerner, but “mortal” stores (like American Apparel) also sell them for $32.

Ripped leggings. For the brave.

I’ll keep my opinions to myself on this one. Hint: Miley wouldn’t be partying anywhere near me, let alone “partying in the USA,” with this look. If you feel bold, daring, and want to turn a few heads, try them out. I won’t judge. Just wanted to throw the option out there…

The ripped leggings trend, I’m not a big fan of, mostly because most people should keep their legs covered and don’t have the gams to pull it off. Ripped black jeans over a pair of liquid leggings? That I’m cool with.

On the subject of leggings with holes, though, I do have to admit the diamante patterned/cut-out leggings that Rodarte did tickle my fancy; since my legs are fat, though, I’ll do society a favor and not wear them.

I think they are pretty cool…I may be daring enough to try this trend sometime, Are there rips on the back too? If so, that would be weird and nvm. Gotta love leggings tho! They are comfortable and cute at the same time and oh so versatile :)

not sure how i feel about these…leggings are crazy comfortable though, that’s for sure.
definitely not a trend for everyone, but if you have nice legs, work it out
