SHEI Goes Golden – Welcome to Campus!
SHEI Magazine recently celebrated 10 years on the University of Michigan campus. From our beginning as an Asian pop-culture magazine to our gradual transition towards a focus of global pop-culture, art & design, and fashion, from a single print editio
n to two print editions (and a half…see pre-zine) plus website, we are continually in transition.
But transition is change and change is good. Every year is a fresh start – a golden opportunity to be…exactly who you want to be. To join new clubs and make new friends, to get back in touch with old ones. Resolutions made at the beginning of the school year are more valuable than those made on January 1st…and that’s a scientific fact.
This year is the Golden Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to the young people of the University of Michigan (and by extension, the rest of the United States) to “dedicate themselves to global peace and justice” as he announced the formation of the Peace Corps.
At SHEI, we hold ourselves to the gold standard – the best of the best, classic and stable, but malleable, completely customizable for every member and reader.
Golden – the theme of our pre-zine. Produced over the summer by SHEI, we hope you’ll find this mini-edition to be everything our full-edition is…but pint-sized. You can find at FestiFall or NorthFest for your copy and look for it around campus. Because of generous sponsorship from MSA and Copy Boy Printers (248-349-3730), it’s also entirely free for our readers.
In the next couple of weeks, we’ll also be updating our website to better suit our needs for both a web-zine and blog format while also showcasing the amazing work of our Photo & Fashion teams. Within the organization itself, we are continuing to work with area businesses, organizations, and charities – look for new and expanded collaborations posted in our events calendar.
SHEI Magazine has a lot to offer talented individuals that are interested in becoming involved in our creative to business sides. Working with us a great way to become more involved on campus while also honing your skills in the media industry.
Feel free to be in touch with our Executive Board if you’d like more information about joining our team: SHEI [at] umich.edu
Looking forward to meeting you soon,
