Tally Hall, Tuesday May 9 at the Blind Pig

Having your roommate’s brother in the band is always an easy draw: A free ticket and as well as a meet and greet with the band sounds good to me.
Without much knowledge about the band, really only knowing one of their shows due to my religious viewing of the OC (one of their songs appeared on the show), I was pleasantly surprised with the group’s talent….
Tally Hall, an easy-listening rock band, formed in December 2002 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The band gets their name from an indoor shopping plaza on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Clearly, the band has a deep-connection with Michigan, all of the members attended U of M and only one is not from Michigan.
Each of their songs had multiple lead singers, various harmonies and even the maraca. Their sound is unique and reminds me of the early Beatles sound. Now under theAtlantic Records recording label, the group just finished recording their second album. Playing both new and old music, the Blind Pig was packed with excited, eager and sweaty fans. Toward the end of their set, Rob (lead singer and guitarist) informed the audience that they were going to change the set into a more intimate setting. Rob, along with other lead singer and guitarist, Zubin, entertained the crowd with a campy sing-a-long, while the crew moved the equipment to the floor, adding dim lights, oriental rugs. After the set change, the group performed two more acoustic songs with the entire crowd singing along. Throughout the concert, Tally Hall’s strong admiration for their fans and vice-versa was apparent.
I would deem myself a seasoned concert-goer. I have NEVER witnessed such a humble and thoughtful group. Entering the floor of the Blind Pig, leaving the stage, Tally Hall became apart of the crowd, literally and figuratively. All in all, a great show ending with a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Cecilia.
“I can promise that we hope our second album with come out this summer” – Rob assured the crowd.
