The Kindle Commercials Kick Apps

All I can say is that the two Kindle commercials are awesome. They show something I haven’t seen done before – moving images in a one-dimensional, fixed way. The only downfall is that the commercials are so creative that I was more interested in the actual commercial than the product. It was after a few views that I actually paid attention to the Kindle in the commercial.
Most people already know the functions of a Kindle, but for those who don’t, the only criticism I have for the commercials is that they don’t explain what a Kindle is or does. The slogan displayed at the end of the :30 commercials is, “Books in 60 seconds.â€
A recent blog on Wired.com discussed Amazon’s announcement of Kindle Apps for Tablet Computers, including Kindle for iPad. Blogger Charlie Sorrel claims:
“Still, the effort Amazon seems to have put in shows that it is clearly focused on selling books, not the hardware the books are read on.â€
I found that post interesting, considering there are two Kindle commercials currently running, and the commercials are about the Kindle as an electronic reader to retrieve “Books in 60 seconds.â€
I took the commercial campaign as Amazon’s way of saying that the Kindle will not back down to the iPad. Perhaps Amazon is just trying to be smart and realistic that many people are going to purchase the iPad over the Kindle, so they might as well play nice with Apple through dual promotion.
Regardless of what is actually going on behind the scenes, Amazon did an amazing job with the Kindle commercials, and it looks like e-readers have a bright future ahead.
