DIY: Summer Clothes

9 May 2011 No Comment

$58, Abercrombie & Fitch. Pricey? So just make them yourself.

Summer is well on it’s way. As the weather gets warmer and warmer, more and more summery outfits and sundresses are filling the window displays in malls and boutiques. It’s also becoming more and more tempting to start buying some of these outfits. Luckily, a low budget doesn’t always mean a lack of cute, new Summer clothes. It’s possible that there is a wide variety of new skirts, shorts and sun dresses waiting to be made and sitting in our dressers right now. All you have to do is dig through clothes you already have and make them new again.

If you’re in love with the simple sun dresses found in Delia’s and Forever 21, you will probably love these DIY sun dresses by Talk2TheTrees. Easy to follow instructions and super cute!  You’ll need an old beater/tee and about 3 yards of fabric. It’s easy to find cheap fabrics in the clearance sections of Jo-Ann’s or other fabric stores. Even Walmart has a decent selection of cheap fabrics to chose from.

If skirts are more your thing or you want something a little more unique try these DIY jumper skirts. No need to buy any fabric here – an old baggy tee shirt will suffice. It’s impossible to tell these skirts were ever frumpy tee’s after their makeovers. Definitely worth the effort.

Everyone loves jeans, but it seems like most people own at least one pair of jeans they never wear anymore. If this sounds like you, try cutting off the legs and making your own destroyed denim shorts. Use bleach to fade the denim to a preferred shade and coffee for staining. Try these DIY destroyed denim shorts using an old pair of jeans to get a $58 Abercrombie look totally free.

Enjoy your new handmade Summer looks!
