Carpet Your Fridge
Shag carpet is one of the most unfortunate things born of the ’70s, along with the oil crisis and Margaret Thatcher. Unlike Margaret Thatcher, however, both oil crises and shag carpet have made a comeback. Thanks to the authors of ”Carbon Free Home,” one of those resurgences could actually make the world a better place.Refrigerators are the most energy-hungry appliance in your house, but there are a few ways to make them more efficient. Keeping them stocked and clean are the most basic methods. But that’s boring, and let’s face it – the more effort you put into a green home, the better you’re going to feel
about yourself and the more awesome your fridge is going to look. So where does the shag carpet come in? Well, it doesn’t come in, it goes on; more specifically, it goes on your refrigerator. Insulating your cooler keeps the internal temperature lower so it doesn’t have to work as hard to keep your milk nice and cold. Adapted from Discovery’s Planet Green blog, here is a DIY guide to insulating your icebox with shag carpet:
1. Get a hold of some insulation board
2. Cut that board to fit the top and sides of your fridge
3. Use double-sided tape to tape the insulation board to the top and sides (NOT the doors)
4. Cover the top, sides AND doors with shag carpet
Et voilà!

Wow. That’s pretty sweet.
