Upcycled Beanie

Lotte Hurkmans

With winter in full swing, I often find myself compromising between staying warm and wearing something cute.  Just recently I realized how fun hats can be, but I was surprised to find they can be quite expensive. I went out to Urban Outfitters anyway and got myself a plain orange beanie, thinking that this hat will work with many of my outfits. With this in mind, I suddenly found myself wanting more beanies. But instead of going out and spending more money on a new hat, this DIY project fixed my problem for free. This upcycling craft left me inspired, and with many new outfit ideas! It’s simple and the $0 price tag isn’t too bad either.

What you need:

  • A beanie
  • A broken piece of jewelry
  • Needle and thread

This project is very simple and if you’re like me, you probably have a broken piece of jewelry lying around that you’re just not ready to give up yet. I used an old necklace, but large earrings or a pretty bracelet can also do the trick.

Simply sew the piece of jewelry onto the hat. I used the chain in between the charms as places to loop my thread through.

Voila! You now have a beanie with a fashionable twist. Wear it as a fun accessory to warm up your winter outfit on a frigid day.
